PostgreSQL 9.4 by Software Collections
rh-postgresql94 - A recent stable release of PostgreSQL. This version provides a number of new features and enhancements:
Increased flexibility with the new JSONB datatype, which enables users to use both relational and non-relational data stores at the same time
Increased scalability with Logical Decoding that supplies a new API for reading, filtering and manipulating the PostgreSQL replication stream. This interface is the foundation for new replication tools, such as Bi-Directional Replication.
Increased performance with improvements to GIN indexes, concurrently updatable Materialized Views for faster, more up-to-date reporting, parallel writing to the transaction log, and support for Linux huge pages.
Event trigger support for DDL
Improved materialized view, which can, for example, be refreshed without blocking concurrent reads

You can get started in three easy steps:
# 1. Install a package with repository for your system: # On CentOS, install package centos-release-scl available in CentOS repository: $ sudo yum install centos-release-scl # On RHEL, enable RHSCL repository for you system: $ sudo yum-config-manager --enable rhel-server-rhscl-7-rpms # 2. Install the collection: $ sudo yum install rh-postgresql94 # 3. Start using software collections: $ scl enable rh-postgresql94 bash
At this point you should be able to use PostgreSQL just as a normal application. Here are some examples of commands you can run:
$ postgresql-setup --initdb $ service rh-postgresql94-postgresql start $ psql
Since su and sudo commands clear environment variables, we need to run scl enable once again for example after switching to postgres user role:
$ su - postgres -c 'scl enable rh-postgresql94 -- psql'
In order to view the individual components included in this collection, including additional subpackages, you can run:
$ sudo yum list rh-postgresql94\*
PostgreSQL Software Collection as Docker Formatted Container
On CentOS 7 and RHEL 7 you can pull the image with the following command:
$ docker pull rhscl/postgresql-94-rhel7
For more on the docker image follow the link to public source repository: https://github.com/sclorg/postgresql-container
Community Project: Maintained by upstream communities of developers. The software is cared for, but the developers make no commitments to update the repositories in a timely manner.
