python33 - A recent stable release of Python 3 with a number of additional utilities and a database connector for PostgreSQL. This Software Collection gives developers on Red Hat Enterprise Linux 6 access to Python 3 and allows them to benefit from various advantages and new features of this version.

This collection is EOL since Oct 2016.

Instructions

You can get started in three easy steps:

# 1. Install a package with repository for your system:
# On CentOS, install package centos-release-scl available in CentOS repository:
$ sudo yum install centos-release-scl

# On RHEL, enable RHSCL repository for you system:
$ sudo yum-config-manager --enable rhel-server-rhscl-7-rpms

# 2. Install the collection:
$ sudo yum install python33

# 3. Start using software collections:
$ scl enable python33 bash

At this point you should be able to use python just as a normal application. Some examples of new available commands follow:

$ python my-app.py
$ easy_install Flask
$ easy_install Django
$ bundle

In order to view the individual components included in this collection, including additional python modules, you can run:

$ sudo yum list python33\*

Python Software Collection as Docker Formatted Container

On CentOS 7 and RHEL 7 you can pull the image with the following command:

$ docker pull openshift3/python-33-rhel7
